Grant aid is ordinarily available to students only for their first four semesters in the TRIO/STAARS program. In some cases, this eligibility can be extended for reasons of exceptional financial need and exemplary academic achievement. These exceptions are intended to assist students in reaching their graduation and/or transfer goals. NOTE that eligibility is never extended because of academic need alone; students must have achieved a GPA of at least 3.0 and have earned at least 40 credits in their four semesters of eligibility to qualify for an extension.

To complete the application, please write a letter to the TRIO Director outlining how you meet both the financial and the academic criteria for an extension. You must include a letter from a Skyline College Counselor or teacher supporting your request. Your extension request will be reviewed for accuracy by TRIO staff, and if accurate, the letter will be evaluated by the TRIO Director.

The deadline for submitting a request for extension is 30 days before the grant aid deadline. In Spring 2005 the grant aid deadline is 4:00 PM on Friday, May 13. The extension deadline is 4:000 PM on Wednesday, April 13.
