TRIO / STAARS Student Responsibilities
  • Keeping your contact information up to date . This enables the Project staff to be certain that all important information is communicated to you in a timely manner.

  • Meeting with the STAARS counselor twice each semester . Your Student Educational Plans (SEPs) must be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

  • Making appointments and keeping them ; just dropping in to catch project staff may not be effective because staff may be busy with other students and their hours vary. If you miss an appointment, it is polite to email or call to explain and reschedule.

  • Contacting your mentor at the start of each semester and whenever you need assistance with any academic matter. Your mentor's role is as your advocate; help him or her to help you by keeping in touch.

  • Attending all assigned academic support activities : these activities will help ensure your success.

  • Keeping records of all program contacts in your TRIO folder . This is how we document the services you receive.

  • Logging in at the front of the Learning Center . Please use the TRIO button.

  • Contacting project staff if your status changes : for example, if you should need to drop a course or take a semester off. We understand that these small setbacks are part of the college experience for many students and we will help you to handle the situation so that you can return most easily when that becomes possible.

  • Having teachers complete progress reports when necessary. (G—fill this in please)

  • Informing the Director or your mentor when you transfer or graduate : Even if you reach your goal after you leave Skyline College , we need to keep records of our students' success to ensure continued funding.

  • Letting us know what you need : if we can possibly find a way to help you, we will do so to the best of our abilities.
